I was fortunate enough to work under Jack for 3 years at AspenTech while he was the Senior Director of User Experience and my manager. To say Jack gives 100% of himself everyday would be an understatement. From the multiple large projects Jack facilitates, to mentoring those in his department, and out, both on a professional level and personal one, I can truly say I've never worked for someone who really goes above and beyond to put others before themself quite like Jack.
It isn't only just his people that he cares about though. The level of knowledge he brings not only regarding the design field but also to any project he worked on was commendable and his care to pass that knowledge down to those that worked under him showed to me how passionate Jack was regarding my career.
Jack is somebody I will truly miss working for and under and I know the next group of designers who have the opportunity to work for him will be blown away by his level of care and dedication.

I had the pleasure of working with Jack for around 8 years at Aspen where he worked as Senior Director, Design in Products. I found Jack to have a “can do” attitude, and get the work done regardless of the intensive time-frames, or complexity of the work. Jack works well under pressure, has a good sense of self and what his skill set is, and he applies his skills accordingly.
As a manager Jack, has created a very robust organization that operates like a well-oiled machine. He built his department to execute very high quality deliverables with seamless collaboration. Not content with simply “doing his job” he is a quick learner, and very pro-active in every sense. He is detail oriented with a classically trained eye for design. Jack managed both up and down the chain of command very effectively and was always ready to “make it happen” and take it to the next level!
He assisted me with video, messaging, web/mobile/desktop design, PPT’s and Prezi among others. His knowledge of all the current tool-sets is both very deep and broad. A fun guy to work with too with a great sense of humor.

What to say about Jack. He's smart, committed, and dedicated to his work. As an IA and designer, Jack has strong ideas about direction and interaction and was willing to do the research to make them better. That's the part that makes me willing to work with him again: his willingness to iterate.

Jack Shapiro is a seasoned leader who manages an experienced team of well-rounded designers. Since joining Aspen I have seen him grow and be a major contributor to all facets of the company. These include, but are not limited to modern design movements for mobile, desktop and enterprise. His background in print, live-action video, and animation are highly leveraged throughout as well as his experience in leading turn-around business situations.
He is running a subset of my organization with little guidance and direction as he is incredibly pro-active coupled and leads admirably. His direct reports respect his directives and he is always open to new ideas/suggestions – “always keeping the door open”. Jack keeps his ear close to the ground and reads a lot, he is always ahead of the curve when it comes to implementing new technology and design.
Jack has meshed well with other parts of the organization forming a collaborative theme in his daily activities. His business acumen is top-notch and with putting the voice of the customer first-and-foremost in his executions has transformed what was once a one-man hands on individual, to leading a team that spans nationally.
