Aspen Video Work — Making Complex Industrial Tech Commercially Clear

Case Study Snapshot:


Built a repeatable video production engine at AspenTech that translated complex industrial software into commercially clear stories—dozens of reusable videos adopted by Sales and Execs globally, replacing 30-slide decks and becoming the standard keynote opening.

Context:


AspenTech sells sophisticated engineering software across the process industries—products that are powerful, but hard to explain quickly. Video became the fastest way to make complex concepts feel obvious to buyers, new customers, partners, and investors—while also supporting recruiting, internal enablement, and executive storytelling.


Problem:

The organization needed content that could work everywhere: sales, conferences, launches, training, and investor narratives. The challenge wasn’t just production—it was translation: turning simulation, optimization, APM, digital twins, energy transition, emissions, reliability, and supply chain value into stories that were technically accurate, brand-compliant, and easy to understand under deadline pressure (often for conferences).


Approach:

I built a repeatable production engine—a content factory—that could create high-fidelity videos quickly and consistently. Using 3D Studio Max, After Effects, and Adobe Premiere, I blended 3D animation, motion graphics, and editorial storytelling to make the technology tangible.


Success was defined by one thing: reuse. If Sales, Product, Execs, and Training all reused the same assets across channels, the content was doing real work.


What shipped:

  • Dozens of videos spanning product explainers, feature vignettes, conference loops, and trainings

  • Typical runtime: 2–20 minutes, with cutdowns and variations as needed

  • Signature work: 3D plant visualizations, digital twin scenarios, data-flow storytelling, and “how it works / why it matters” narratives that made abstract software feel concrete

  • Distributed across internal channels and external touchpoints: public site, in-product experiences, sales decks, trade shows, and key events (Sales Conferences, Optimize, technical meetings)


How I led and executed:

I led an internal team plus agencies/vendors—and stayed hands-on end-to-end

  • Storyboards, scripting, 3D modeling, animation

  • Editing, sound, color, and VO direction

  • Vendor direction + tightening to final polish. All within tight conference-driven deadlines and constraints (legal review, competitive sensitivity, technical accuracy, brand compliance).


Outcomes:

  • Used by Sales globally as core enablement assets

  • Became the standard opening for keynotes

  • Replaced 30-slide decks, accelerating how quickly audiences understood value

  • Established reusable templates and a scalable workflow that kept output consistent and fast


Why it mattered:

This work didn’t just “look good.” It reduced friction in the business: fewer words, fewer decks, faster understanding. It turned complex engineering technology into a commercially compelling narrative that could scale across launches, events, training, sales, and executive storytelling in ~6 months, without every team inventing their own approach.
